What runs yearly
- Annual theme — the one frame that holds the year. Not a goal. A direction.
- Big bets — the 3 things that, if they work, change the company shape.
- Yearly retrospective — the quarterly retros stitched together. What was the actual story of the year?
- Tax + admin — the necessary annual chores. Schedule them so they don't ambush you.
The risk of skipping yearly
Most captains running quarterly cadence skip yearly because "it's just four quarterlies." It isn't. Yearly is where you ask: what kind of company are we becoming? Quarterly can't answer that — too close to the rotor blades.
