Great context, great output

The leverage principle: the quality of an AI's output is bounded by the quality of the context you provide. Context engineering beats prompt engineering.

Definition

Great context, great output is the principle underneath every MaxShip discipline.

Bad context yields bad output. Every. Single. Time. The leverage isn't in clever prompt engineering. It's in *what comes before* — the Command layer where you've written down the theory of your business well enough that the AI can read its shadow.

Most operators trying to "use AI" never invest in their context. They paste a half-described task into a chat and hope. They get bland, generic, derivative output — and conclude AI is overhyped. They were right that the output was bad. They were wrong about the cause.

Captains who shape their context obsessively get outputs that feel custom-built for them. Because they were.
