HITL 2.0

Human-in-the-loop, version 2. The captain stays at the wheel; agents are subject-matter experts, not autopilot.

Definition

HITL 2.0 (Human-in-the-Loop 2.0) is MaxShip's reframing of the classic HITL pattern.

In HITL 1.0, the human reviewed AI output before it went out — last-line defense against bad results. The model was passive; the human was a gatekeeper.

In HITL 2.0, the relationship inverts. The human (the Captain) writes the brief and sets the direction. The AI agents are *subject-matter experts* — they take the brief, execute, and bring the work back. The captain reviews, refines, and feeds the learning into the next Cadence.

The captain isn't a gatekeeper. They're the strategist. The AI isn't on autopilot. It's a crew working under command.
